The mirror ball trophy is up for grabs once again on the Dancing With the Stars finale.
ABC 13 is having a special watch party tonight for the show at the YWCA of Central Virginia Design house in Lynchburg.
Fifteen area designers have each taken on a room of this historic mansion on Rivermont Avenue to transform it into the YWCA Design House.
When women and children are in trouble in our area the YWCA of Central Virginia is there to help pick up the pieces: from domestic violence shelters, to sexual assault programs to mentoring programs.
Area designers have taken on the project of their lives to help support the non-profit.
A lot of time, love and sweat when into designer Haley Pavao’s re-design of the basement “man room.”
“Mainly the actual furniture is from Sweetbriar. This shelf is from Sweetbriar’s old library. So that has some history and charm
The owner of Pastiche on Main in Lynchburg jumped at the chance to create this room in the name of empowering local women.
“Pastiche at main is all about support local and when I heard it was supporting the YWCA I was all about it.” Pavao said.
Caroline Hudson with the YWCA of Centra Virginia says hundreds of volunteers put in thousands of hours to make this project happen.
“Our tag line for this project is transforming a home to build better lives,” Hudson said.
The money raised, she said, will go a long way.
“It really means a lot because the YWCA runs on a shoe string budget,” Hudson said. “So we really rely on our volunteers and so for people to step up and do this project, which not only is bringing in funds, but awareness for the YWCA at a time when we really need it.”
“I’ve certainly learned a lot from this project and I probably take away the community aspect,” Pavao said.
It’s a community project that made this home beautiful on the inside and out.
